How to Get the Best Rates on Health Insurance in Minnesota

Whenever an individual in Minnesota is shopping for a private health insurance plan they want to be certain of one thing in particular. That is, that the company they are considering buying insurance from is licensed to do business in the state. There are two ways they can confirm the legitimacy of their potential health insurance company. One is to call the Minnesota Department of Health and the other is to contact the Minnesota Department of Commerce.

Once you know which companies are legally operating in the state, you then need to start considering which will offer the best rates. To do this its important to determine what type of policy is best suited to your familys health care needs. Everything from immunizations to dental care and prescription drug coverage can be included in a policy.

If you are a relatively healthy single person with a family history of serious illness such as cancer or diabetes, a single coverage policy will offer the lowest rates possible. This is very limited coverage though and it only protects the individual in the event that they become ill with the noted disease. Theres no coverage for unrelated doctor visits or prescriptions. You can always purchase a standard plan and then add the extra coverage on if you are truly concerned about the medical costs involved in the treatment of the disease.

Inquiring at work about group coverage is also a good method for finding a deal on premiums. Many employers offer group health coverage to employees who work a minimum number of hours per week after a probationary period. If this is an option, consider taking the coverage. Its unlikely that youll be able to find the same level of coverage at a comparable rate anywhere else. This is particularly true of employees with small children. Family coverage can get expensive so a group plan is a great route to take.
